Fall on the Paradise Ridge: Things to Do in Paradise & Magalia
Cozy Fall on the Paradise Ridge: Apples, Music, Fall Color & Community Traditions
There’s something about fall on the Paradise Ridge that makes you want to linger a little longer.
The mornings turn crisp. The leaves begin to change. Sweaters come back out of the closet, and weekends start filling with apple pie, live music, family festivals, stargazing, chili cookoffs and hometown traditions.
In Paradise and Magalia, California, fall isn’t only a season you see—it’s one you get to participate in.
Whether you’re coming up from Chico for the afternoon, planning a weekend from Sacramento or beginning to wonder what everyday life on the Ridge might look like for your family, autumn is one of the best times to experience it.

Kick Off Fall Under the Pines in Magalia
Fall feels right at home among the tall pines of Magalia.
The Magalia Fall Festival returns to Magalia Community Park on Saturday, September 26, from 2–7 p.m., bringing together an afternoon of live music, games, local vendors and plenty for kids to do.
Water slides run from 2–6 p.m., games continue throughout the afternoon, and Hill + Kidz performs live from 4:30–6:30 p.m. Families can also join the hunt for the Lost Magalia Gold Nugget.
It’s exactly the kind of relaxed Saturday that works well with kids: arrive when you’re ready, let them play, browse the vendors, listen to some music and enjoy an afternoon outside.
And on the Ridge, some of the best weekends really are that simple.

Celebrate Apple Season at Johnny Appleseed Days
Then October arrives with one of Paradise’s most beloved fall traditions.
Johnny Appleseed Days returns to Terry Ashe Park on Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sunday, October 4, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
First held in 1888, Johnny Appleseed Days is recognized as California’s oldest harvest festival, and the celebration continues to honor Paradise’s orchard heritage with fresh apples from Noble Orchards, apple pie and ice cream, artisans, local businesses, children’s activities, food and continuous hometown entertainment.
This is the kind of weekend that just feels like fall: kids playing in the park, families wandering through rows of handmade goods, music from the gazebo and the unmistakable promise of apple pie nearby.
The Home on the Ridge Home and Community Expo also takes place alongside Johnny Appleseed Days, bringing home, community and local resources together for residents and visitors who want to learn a little more about life on the Ridge.
If you’ve ever wondered what Paradise feels like beyond the photos and real estate listings, this is a pretty good weekend to come see for yourself.

Make a Whole Saturday of It
You could easily spend all of October 3 exploring Paradise.
Start the morning at Johnny Appleseed Days, grab lunch from the food court, browse a few more booths and then head down to Paradise Community Park for the Rotary Club of Paradise’s Blues and Brews.
The free event begins at 3 p.m. with craft beer, food, wine options and live music throughout the afternoon and evening. The lineup includes Big Mo & The Full Moon Band, Soul Posse, Amy Celeste and Blue Monday, with proceeds benefiting scholarships for Paradise students.
Bring a chair, find a spot on the grass and stay awhile.
Apple pie in the morning and live blues in the afternoon sounds like a pretty good fall Saturday to us.

Catch a Little Horse Country, Too
There’s even more happening that first October weekend.
The Paradise Horsemen’s Association Fall Fest Buckle Show takes place October 3 and 4, adding a completely different flavor to the weekend.
Riders compete in events including barrels, poles, stakes and speed competitions, with divisions ranging from leadline to adult riders. Saturday evening includes games in the arena, and a full snack bar will be serving breakfast and lunch both days.
Events like this are a reminder that the Ridge has a little bit of everything—mountain-town living, outdoor recreation, arts and music, and a strong equestrian and rural community woven through it all.

Watch the Stars Come Out Over Paradise Lake
By mid-October, the evenings are cooler and sunset arrives a little earlier—which happens to be perfect timing for a night at Paradise Lake.
On Saturday, October 17, Paradise Recreation and Park District hosts its final Astronomy at the Lake session of the season from 5:30–10:30 p.m.
Kayakers begin with a sunset paddle on Paradise Lake before settling in for a guided tour of the night sky. PRPD notes that ambient light around the lake is minimal after dark, creating a beautiful setting for stargazing. The astronomy portion is also available separately for those who would rather skip the kayak.
There’s something particularly cozy about bundling up near the lake while the last light fades through the trees and the stars begin appearing overhead.
And the best part? This isn’t a road-trip destination hours from home.
It’s right here on the Ridge.

Halloween on the Ridge
Halloween on the Paradise Ridge usually brings plenty of chances for families to celebrate.
Paradise Recreation and Park District’s Community Halloween returns to Terry Ashe Recreation Center on Saturday, October 24, from 6–8 p.m., with games, trick-or-treating, candy, prizes and family activities.
Throughout Paradise and Magalia, local churches and community organizations also host trunk-or-treats and Halloween events. Magalia Community Park and Paradise Alliance Church are among the groups that regularly offer seasonal celebrations, with additional events often hosted by Hope Church, Ridge LifeLine Church and the Paradise Veterans Memorial Hall.
More 2026 dates will likely be announced as October gets closer, giving families several ways to celebrate Halloween around the Ridge.

Plan a Fall Date Night
October 24 isn’t only for the kids.
That evening, Tommy Castro & The Painkillers come to the Paradise Performing Arts Center from 7–10 p.m.
Grab dinner somewhere local, find a sitter and make a night of it.
That variety is part of what makes fall on the Ridge fun. One weekend might involve apple pie and kids’ games. Another might mean live blues, dinner out or a concert at the performing arts center.
There’s room for both.

Welcome November With Pancakes, a Run and Plenty of Chili
If crisp November mornings are your thing, Saturday, November 7 is going to be a busy one.
The Phoenix 5K/10K starts the day with runners and walkers gathering in Paradise, along with a free community pancake breakfast.
You don’t have to be chasing a personal record to enjoy the morning. Walk the course, cheer someone on or simply come out for breakfast and be part of the crowd.
Then, once pancakes have had a little time to settle, head toward Terry Ashe Recreation Center for Bags & Beans.
The annual chili cookoff runs from 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with public tasting beginning at 1 p.m. For $5, spectators can purchase a tasting kit, sample the competing chilis and cast a People’s Choice ballot.
It’s hard to argue with a fall Saturday that starts with pancakes and ends with chili.
When Fall Starts Turning Into Christmas
November also brings that unmistakable moment when autumn on the Ridge begins giving way to the holiday season.
The 2nd Annual Paradise Christmas Preview takes place Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, inviting people to explore participating businesses throughout Paradise while getting a head start on holiday shopping.
Expect a festive weekend of local shopping, treats, activities, specials, raffle prizes, Santa and plenty of Christmas spirit spread throughout town.
Rather than heading to one big shopping center, Christmas Preview gives you an excuse to wander through Paradise, discover local businesses, pick out a few gifts, grab something warm to drink and make holiday shopping part of the day's adventure.
And because Christmas Preview overlaps with the Phoenix 5K and Bags & Beans on Saturday, November 7, you could easily turn it into a full day on the Ridge: pancakes in the morning, some Christmas shopping, chili in the afternoon and maybe dinner somewhere local before heading home.
Or, if you live here, maybe that is home.

Don't Forget the Ordinary Fall Days
The festivals are fun, but they aren’t the whole story.
Some of our favorite fall days on the Ridge don't involve an event at all.
Take a walk through Bille Park when the weather cools down. Feed the ducks with the kids at the Aquatic Park. Spend a quiet afternoon at Paradise Lake. Drive farther up Skyway into Magalia beneath the pines. Meet a friend for coffee. Stop somewhere local for lunch. Pick up apples for home and take the long way back.
Fall is also a great time to simply be outside.
The temperatures are more comfortable for walking and exploring, the changing leaves bring new color to familiar places, and sometimes an hour at the park is all the weekend plan you need.
That's part of the lifestyle here: outdoor time doesn't necessarily have to be an excursion.
It can just be Tuesday afternoon.
