Best Northern California Hikes & Cycling on the Paradise Ridge
An excellent way to spend time outdoors on The Ridge and beyond is by hiking or cycling. There are a number of trails for all skill levels to enjoy throughout the year. Bust out your best hiking shoes or mountain bike and take a look at some of the trails below to explore.
Yellowstone Kelly Heritage Trail
The Yellowstone Kelly Heritage Trail spans 5.1 miles along what was once the Butte County Railroad. A perfect trail for all experience levels, you may even spot a deer or two along your way. If you have some time, take a moment to read the plaques along the trail which tells the story of Paradise pioneers and the community local history.
Plan your trip around a visit to Paradise Community Park and the Depot Museum, adjacent to the trail or take a detour to shops and restaurants along Skyway.

Paradise Lake
The trail along Paradise Lake is 9 miles out and back featuring beautiful views of the lake and trees. This is an excellent trail year round and wildlife is often visible.

Forks of Butte Creek Recreation Area
Just north of Magalia you will find the Forks of Butte Creek Recreation Area, a beautiful forested area that is home of a couple of trails. Butte Creek Trail starts at Doe Mill Bridge and goes along the west side of the creek for one mile. The Indian Springs Trail, is another great trail for views of Butte Creek. The trail begins with sights of serpentine (California’s State rock) and declines for 1.5 miles into Butte Creek Canyon where you are treated to an assortment of trees and wildflowers.

Outside of The Ridge there are other options in nearby cities with excellent trails as well.
In Chico, at Lower Bidwell Park you will find the Center Gap-Humbug Loop which is a challenging trail with an elevation change of 4,000 feet.
The Brad Freeman Trail in Oroville is 41 miles long with tons to explore including gold rush history, Oroville Dam, railway tunnels and more. See other Butte County trails here.
